Home > Mockingbird

OK, what's the story with the mockingbirds? Around the spring of 2000, my husband rescued a fledgling mockingbird that had fallen out of its nest. After a fruitless search for its parents, we decided to try to take care of him (her?). To make a long story short, he ended up staying with us for about two months, and he was eventually able to fly away. We'd named him Porky, because he never wanted to stop eating. He became a part of our family, but we knew that we wanted him to be able to go where he belonged when it was time. We were thrilled and a little saddened when it did happen; he just flew away one day. We really got the empty nest syndrome after he left. These paintings are my idle musings about his origins and his destination.
